Good First Aid Training is so important. It gives individuals the confidence in an emergency to take control of the situation, re-assure the patient until the emergency services arrive and possibly, in some cases, actaully ‘SAVE A LIFE’!
Resuscitating a patient can be a frightening experience but can be made easier with the correct training and techniques.
CPR stands for Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation. This means resuscitating a person when they have stopped breathing. Two ways of doing this are Hands Only and Mouth to Mouth.
- Hands Only – hands are used to compress the chest after a cardiac arrest. (no mouth to mouth contact is made).
- Mouth-to-Mouth breathing – this is breathing into somebody else’s lungs. When we breathe in we use some oxygen but there is more than enough when we breathe out to supply someone else’s needs.
A First Aider Protection Pack which includes a Resusciade Face Shield to be used during Mouth-to-Mouth to prevent cross infection is a good idea to include wiith your First Aid provision.
